Join us for a practical two-part session helping members to understand their responsibilities in supporting pupils with medical needs, including clear, actionable guidance on allergy management, emergency response, and compliance with Benedict’s Law.
Part 1: Supporting Children with Medical Needs in Schools

- Overview of statutory responsibilities for supporting pupils with medical conditions
- Developing effective whole-school systems, including policies, individual healthcare plans, and accountability
- Risk management and compliance considerations, including record keeping and audit readiness
- Roles and responsibilities across teams, including the contribution of estates and facilities teams
- Creating a culture of confidence and preparedness across school staff
- Brief reference to specific conditions
Part 2: Allergy Management in Schools

- Compliance, costs and implementation
- Statistics, data and case studies of relevance for allergy in education
- Brief explanation of Benedict’s Law and how this fits around H&S responsibilities and supporting children with medical conditions
- Brief explanation of core principles of allergy management in schools – what good looks like
- Adrenaline devices (e.g. EpiPen/Jext/Neffy) – practical considerations including:
- Storage and accessibility
- Checks, expiry dates, and rotation
- Training requirements for staff
- The role of estates teams in supporting management (storage, location, signage, maintenance, etc.)
